Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert is one of my all time favorite country singers. and guess what! I'm seeing her and Dierks Bentley tonight at Austin 360 amphitheater! My friends and I got these shirts that give you a chance to go backstage and meet Miranda or Dierks and so I'm really hoping we win. I'll let you know. In all of Miranda Lambert's songs, her sassy personality is so obvious. She always writes about getting revenge and she is so to the point and creative with her songs. She also has a song that's a little different than her usual stuff but is my favorite song that always brings tears to my eyes, especially because I will be going to college soon.. the song is the House that Built Me. The music video is so sweet and personal, I love it.

Temper Trap

I first heard this band at ACL fest a few years ago with Sofie! We were waiting in the crowd for Matt & Kim to come on stage and they were right before them! I wasn't expecting to like them because two years ago I hadn't broadened my knowledge or taste of music but I really liked them. I really only know a few songs and could never be able to tell you which album they were on but I enjoy listening to them! One of their songs appeared in the movie 500 Days of Summer so that's cool. I feel like their sound is moving towards more "radio friendly" tones and away from this solely indie genre.

What Will Stay Popular??

Gosh. I don't even know. I'm PRAYING that it won't be One Direction or some pop songs that appear on the radio every second of the day. I'm pretty sure Jay-Z will be remembered, maybe some alternative band like Vampire Weekend, The Killers, Weezer. In 10 years if I look back at this blog, I wouldn't be surprised if NONE of these bands were still remembered. But that's what's so cool about music! It is so unpredictable and new bands pop up all the time and those new bands could model themselves after this generation's bands!

Avett Bros

My obsession with the Avett Brothers started in May.. I got offered CHEAP pit tickets to their concert at Austin 360 amphitheater and I knew maybe 3 of their songs so I decided to go! Their concert was probably the best show I've ever been to. They were so fun, and the lights were amazing. They played a lot of upbeat songs but I teared up when they played "Life" as their encore with no drums or backup instruments (just the lead singer and guitars). Beautiful. Ever since then, I have been waiting for them to come back to Austin so I can go to their show and sing to every song. It's so obvious that they are such good song writers. Each song has this hidden meaning and tells a story along the way. My favs are Me and God (which I think is about organized religion?), Life, and SLIGHT FIGURE OF SPEECH! Their voices are so crisp I love it. The harmonies were incredible.

Here is their performance in Austin from the concert I was at... Life: watch watch watch

I just think they are so incredible live so here's another live vid.

Elvis Presley

I have never been a big fan of Elvis.. My parents always say he's the "king of rock n roll" but I don't know how people thought he was good. Don't get me wrong, he was the first GREAT entertainer and he definitely knew how to put on a show, and I would have loved to go see one of them. However, I do not think I could listen to his songs for a long period of time like I can other artists.

CHERUB

Cherub is probably my favorite group right now. They have such a unique voice and beat that it makes it so fun to listen to. They kind of remind me of a futuristic 80ish band (that is so contradictory I know but it's true). My favorite songs are Doses & Mimosas and Heartbreaker. The lyrics are super repetitive so it always gets stuck in my head. They are one of those bands that I would never have thought to be popular but they went viral really fast. It shows what technology/the internet can do for a band.
Their music video for Doses and Mimosas is super trippy and uses a lot of cool effects!

NoiseTrade aka FREE MUSIC

One website that I have recently discovered is noisetrade.com and IT IS NOT ILLEGAL. Free music, free downloads. I'm pretty sure it's mostly EP's from artists and it is basically where I find new bands or artists now. A lot of the bands on here are not available on iTunes or Spotify so it's pretty cool that they're on here! A few recent bands I've liked are Magic Man (cross between Naked and Famous and Two Door Cinema Club), The Riverside (I love girl/guy groups), Carousel (more electronic), Young Islands (reminds me a lot of Passion Pit). I could go on forever. This website is so fun and I could spend days on it.
Oh ps noisetrade has ALL genres, it's awesome.

The Beatles

Watching that documentary in class makes me wish that there was a good quality band in my generation that could get crowds going like they did. I feel like that energy is what gives us hope, that's kinda cheesy but I think it's true. The Beatles have been around for ever. I had a ticket to the Paul McCartney concert when he came to Austin but I didn't go because my history final was the next day and I literally knew zero things. But anyway back to the Beatles, I love their sound and how every member plays a major role in the band, there's not just one sole "leader".
